Song Review: Worth It by Fifth Harmony feat. Kid Ink

Hello everyone! Thought I'd never come back, didn't ya? Well, here I am! To be completely honest with you, I was inspired to come back after seeing a particular hashtag on Twitter. While I was perusing the site last night, I saw this among the trending topics:

Apparently, the music video for girl group Fifth Harmony & rapper Kid Ink's summer smash hit "Worth It" was taken down on Youtube due to containing "repetitive, misleading, or inappropriate content" despite already having amassed 100 million + views. Most sources blamed the removal on the sexualization of two of Fifth Harmony's members who happened to be under 18 at the time of the  video's filming. Harmonizers (what Fifth Harmony's fans call themselves) freaked out to the point that #WeWantWorthItBackOnYoutube trended in the US, causing Youtube to reupload the video earlier this morning. While I don't really care about "controversies" (& most music videos in general) like this, I do care about the music involved, which inspired me to take a couple of listens to "Worth It" & review it. On to the review!

The Top 15 Worst Hit Songs of 2014

Hello Everyone & Happy New Year's! We're at that time of year when we all tend to look back on the previous year and ask ourselves questions about it. What went well? What went wrong? How can I improve in 2015? Well, in 2014, a lot went well for pop music. Some great songs were able to take their places in the year-end Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, that's not what we're looking at here. It's time to take a look back at the bottom of the barrel, the worst of the worst, the crappiest songs the charts had to offer this year and see how we can do better next year. It's time to count down the Top 15 Worst Hit Songs of 2014. To qualify for this list, a song must have charted on the year-end Billboard Hot 100 chart. Don't expect to see any country songs on this list, as they will get their own best & worst lists. Why 15? Because I said so, that's why. Let's get started with some dishonorable mentions!

The Obligatory Introduction Post

Hello all 5 people that will read this!
My name is Josh and I am a 15 year old boy from New Jersey (the armpit of the US) who loves to play, listen to, and talk about music, especially country and pop. I have been watching guys like ToddInTheShadows & Spectrum Pulse and reading blogs like EVA's Reviews & EvoReviews for a while now so I finally decided to give this music-blogging thing a shot. As far as my music tastes go, my friends and family like to say that I listen to everything. For the most part, that's pretty true. If you were to go in my phone and look at my music, you'd find names like Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra & Michael Jackson sitting alongside Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, & Jay-Z. My favorites, however, are acts like Blake Shelton, Big & Rich, Jason Aldean, and Jake Owen. That's right. Good old country music. Bet you weren't expecting that from a city boy yankee.

So, anyway, here's how this fine blog is going to work. Twice a week, I'm going to let the whole world know my opinions on a song that is, as of writing, charting on the Billboard Hot 100. Country songs on Friday & Pop/Rap/Rock songs on Sunday. Starting next week, every other Thursday will be #ThrowbackThursday. This can mean a "Top 15 Worst/Best Songs of Insert Random Year Here" list, a review of a song that has already fallen off the Billboard charts, a review of an old album, or anything throwbacky. Any other day, I may or may not post. If I do, it may be a review of an album I just picked up or something not related to music (I love baseball & the Philadelphia Phillies almost as much as I love music!). I'm going to start off this blog with the Top 15 (that's right, 1 & 1/2 times the fun!) Worst Pop Songs of 2014, followed by the best list. Expect that up tomorrow or Thursday.

Here's to a long successful run!
